Primary 2 Tricky Words

Primary 2 have been learning to read and write some more Tricky Words. We have been looking at the patterns within these words – which parts do we know/recognise? What are the easy parts/hard parts?

The words we have been learning are as follows:

other mother another have live give work world word house also friend most old little

We have worked hard, in class, to know these words well. Ask us if we can read or write these words for you at home. Can we tell you what makes these words tricky? Maybe you could play a few games with the words too?

Have fun, and thank you for your continued support.

Squirrel Trail

Good afternoon everyone

Here are all of the details you will need to follow Primary 2’s Squirrel Trail.

Attached is the map of South Queensferry, which you can follow, telling you where the squirrels might be.

Please mark off each squirrel you find, using the key with pictures of squirrels to help identify them.

If you haven’t already seen it, please watch our video showing how the squirrels were made. See the link below:

Happy hunting 🙂

Team P2

Primary 2 Literacy – w/b 4th October

Here are the sounds and words we are learning to read and write in P2 this week.

Sounds – au and aw. Please cut these out of the yellow sounds card and continue to practise and build words with them alongside last year’s initial sounds, for example h-au-l says haul and p-aw says paw. Yesterday we talked about ‘au’ being a beginning or middle sound (autumn, astronaut, Paul etc) whereas ‘aw’ usually appears on the end of a word, or can be followed by letters l or n (law, saw, fawn, crawl etc).

Words – we have revised the words ‘into’ and ‘here’. Our new tricky words this week are ‘do and ‘as’. We talked about the easy and the hard parts of the words.

Can we read and write these words (and sounds) and use them correctly in sentences? Have we spotted them in this week’s new reading books or in our favourite books and comics? Have a go.

Primary 2 Literacy – w/b 27th September

Here are the sounds and words we will be learning to read and write in P2 this week.

Sounds – ou and ow. Please cut these out of the yellow sounds card and continue to practise and build words with them alongside last year’s initial sounds, for example sh-ou-t says shout and t-ow-n says town. Today we talked about ‘ou’ being a beginning or middle sound (our, cloud etc) whereas ‘ow’ usually appears on the end of a word, or is followed by the letter n (how, now, town, crown, frown etc).

Words – we have revised the words ‘were’ and ‘there’. Our new tricky words this week are ‘into’ and ‘here’. We talked about the easy and the hard parts of the words. Can the boys and girls read and write these words (and sounds) and use them correctly in the context of a sentence? Maybe they’ll be spotted in this week’s new reading books?

Primary 2 – virtual Meet the Teacher

Thank you very much for joining us yesterday afternoon to hear a wee bit more about life in Primary 2. It was great to have so many people online with us. We do appreciate that we shared quite a bit of information with you so we hope that sharing our PowerPoint helps with this. As always if you have any questions, or would like to check anything with us, please just get in touch.

Thank you for your continued support.

Primary 2 Literacy

A big Thank You to everyone for joining us, yesterday, for our virtual ‘Meet the Teacher’. As promised, here are the sounds and words we have been practising this week.

Sounds – oi and oy. Please cut these out of the yellow sounds card and continue to practise and build words with them alongside last year’s initial sounds, for example s-oi-l says soil and c-oi-in says coin.

Words – we have revised the words her, of, you and one. Our new tricky word this week is ‘were’. Can the boys and girls read and write these words and use them correctly in the context of a sentence? Maybe they’ll be spotted in this week’s reading books? Have a go!

Primary 1/2L Nativity

Good afternoon

The wait is over and our class nativity is finally ready for an audience. Please have a look at our class Seesaw page for the link you will need to view the show.

The children have all worked extremely hard to create this for you. I am so proud of their effort and I know that you will be too. We really hope that you enjoy the show – please leave us some comments on Seesaw, with any feedback, and I can share this with the class.

We must say an enormous ‘Thank You’ to Mr Brownlie for, without his help in putting all of our filming together, we would not have a nativity performance to watch. I am sure you will agree he has done a wonderful job. 🙂

We hope that you appreciate we can only share the link to the nativity via Seesaw, and not as a general web link, to comply with GDPR. By sharing on Seesaw it means that this is only a performance for our class and their families.

Wishing you a Merry Christmas. P1/2L and Ms Law x

P1/2 Christmas Party

8th December 2020

Dear Parents/Carers

As part of our Christmas celebrations in school, P1 and P1/2 will have their Christmas party on Wednesday 16th December.

Children should come to school in their party clothes on that day. However, please remember that they will be going outside to play at break and at lunchtime and so will still require suitable outdoor shoes and coats, hats, scarves and gloves.

There will be party games and small snacks for the children and we are looking forward to a fun, festive day.

Thank you very much

P1 and P1/2 class teachers
