We walked on the hard shoulder. The hard shoulder is for cars that have broken down. Oops did you spot that we were walking the wrong way.

Welcome to Primary 2!

Back to school image

I hope you all had a lovely summer. P2 have settled in so quickly that the holidays feel like a lifetime ago and I can’t believe it has been a whole year since they were starting as P1s.

We are all very impressed with how smart all the children are, that they remember their school routines and are all ready for a whole new year of learning.

The weather is very changeable at the moment so please remember to pack a raincoat in your child’s bag if they aren’t wearing one to school at the moment.

Here our plan for our first term.

P2 Term 1

Take a look at what we will be learning!

Maths Games for the computer!

Games to support maths

Here are some games we like to use in school to support learning in maths.  We hope your child can have fun playing them at home too J

General number bond games for differing abilities:

www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button

This game provides quick fire questions on number bonds and covers doubling, halving, multiplication and division too.  It is a timed activity so the children often enjoy trying to beat the clock! (Tablet friendly)

*The following games are not tablet friendly so a laptop or computer would be required*

http://www.amblesideprimary.com/ambleweb/mentalmaths/numberbond.html

This game allows you to work on number bonds to 5, 10 or 100.

http://www.topmarks.co.uk/Flash.aspx?f=loopcardsv6

A super interactive game which allows you to work on your number bonds to 10, 20 or 100 (just click the pairs activity for your desired level!).  If looking for doubling, halving, multiplication or division activities, this fits the bill too.

http://www.topmarks.co.uk/Flash.aspx?f=CalcBalancev5

Can you make the sums balance?  Choose from addition bonds within 10 or addition bonds within 20.

http://www.topmarks.co.uk/Flash.aspx?b=maths/addition

A fun game where children can repair the slide by choosing 2 pieces which total 20.  This game progresses on to dealing with number bonds to 100.

Games which will specifically help develop number bonds to 10:

http://www.ictgames.com/save_the_whale_v4.html

Save the whale by finding the pipe showing the correct number bond.

http://www.iboard.co.uk/iwb/Alien-Pairs-to-10-733

Find a pair of aliens which would total 10 then watch the flying saucer soar away!

Games which will specifically help develop number bonds to 20:

http://www.ictgames.com/funkymum20.html

Complete the sum which totals 20 each time then watch the Egyptian mummy have a boogie!

http://www.ictgames.com/funkymum.html is another version of the above game and gives simple 1 digit add 1 digit sums where the answer totals no more than 20.
