Our Annual Nursery Open Day will take place this year on Thursday 25th February from 3.15-4.15pm. This is an opportunity for prospective families to come and have a look around and meet the staff team. We look forward to seeing you there!
Friday 5th – Thursday 12th February
This week will see our final preparations for our redecoration during the February week. The rooms are starting to look a little bare but it will be worth it!
Our literacy focus on story writing and making words on the magnetic boards has been extremely popular! We will continue to extend this, working with the children’s interests and ideas.
In Maths we will be continuing to explore fractions and dividing. We will be sharing out groups and collections in practical settings e.g. getting the children into smaller groups in the gym hall or outside.
In Health and Wellbeing and Science we will be focusing on the safe use of electricity. We will be making some ‘turn off the lights’ and ‘danger’ signs to put up around the nursery.
We are going to continue to discuss the importance of the reducing, reusing and recycling our waste in the nursery and at home. We will be using our recycling bins for different types of waste and considering ways that we can reduce our waste and use of energy.
Some parents are coming to talk to us about Chinese New Year on Monday and do some cooking with us.
Tuesday is pancake day so we will be making pancakes for snack.
We will also discuss Valentine’s Day later in the week and do some activities linked to this.
REMEMBER: There is no nursery in the week beginning Monday 15th February. We return as normal on Monday 22nd February.
Friday 29th – Thursday 5th February
In Literacy we will be continuing to focus on writing our own stories as a number of children have been interested in this recently. We will also be encouraging the children to sound out words and make them on magnetic boards.
In Maths we will be continuing to explore fractions and dividing. We will do this by sharing out collections and cutting or splitting things into halves and quarters.
In Health and Wellbeing and Science we will be thinking about assessing risk and linking this to knowing about the safe use of electricity. We will be investigating the things we use every day which need electricity.
We are going to learn about the importance of the reducing, reusing and recycling our waste in the nursery and at home. We will be learning which bins to use for different types of waste and considering ways that we can reduce our waste and use of energy.
Chinese New Year is coming up and we will be beginning to learn more about Chinese culture and the importance of this festival. This week we will learn the story of The Great Race
We are about to enter our final week of our ‘Progress Through Play’ transition activity. If you have built your model, please remember to tick the chart on the wall in the corridor. Thank you to all of those who have done this already and uploaded their pictures to Learning Journals. It has been lovely to see them all!
We are aiming for at least 85% of families to engage with this so there is still time if you haven’t got round to it yet! The task was to build a model together using anything you like – dough, plastecine, Lego, junk etc. This will help your child to learn to share and take turns, concentrate on a task and solve problems.
Friday 22nd– Thursday 28th January
Please excuse our appearance over the coming weeks. Both main nursery rooms are being painted in the February holidays and we are beginning to take everything off the walls in preparation. We have lots of exciting plans for our new look!
In Literacy we will be focusing on writing our own stories as a number of children have been interested in this recently. We will also be encouraging the children to attempt to write their own names/make their name with magnetic letters (where appropriate).
In Maths we will be exploring fractions and dividing. We will do this by sharing out collections and cutting or splitting things into halves and quarters.
In Health and Wellbeing we will be continuing to discuss emotions and we will be using drama and role play to investigate the feelings of others.
On Monday we will have a Burns Supper in the hall to celebrate Robert Burns’ birthday. We will look at Scottish songs, stories and Burns poems.
Friday 15th – Thursday 21st January
The recent cold weather has meant that we have been able to investigate the science of freezing and melting. We hope to continue this in the coming week as well. Please ensure children are wrapped up warm and have wellies to wear outdoors.
In Literacy we continue to focus on talking and listening. We will be talking about Winter and what we have been learning to add to our floor book.
In Maths we will be continuing to look at the calendar and plotting in events in the different months. We will continue to talk about number across all of the nursery areas.
Our Health and Wellbeing focus on emotions has really taken off, with children using mirrors to make different facial expressions and considering when they experience different emotions. This will continue this week.
With Robert Burns’ Birthday coming up at the end of the month, we will be beginning to learn a bit about Scotland. We will look at Scottish songs and stories, and identify where we live in Scotland and key features of our town.
Click on the link before to see what we will be learning this week. We are still waiting for a number of Learning Journals and Parent Email forms. Please return these as soon as possible or ask for new forms if you need them.
