On Wednesday 7th September P1 will have their photos taken for the Evening News. Please would you make sure that they wear their jumpers / cardigans on this day so that we all look fabulously smart. You will receive another letter nearer the time that will give you details about how to order the special edition of the Evening News that will feature their picture.

Please take a look at the learning we will be doing this term. You will also receive a paper copy inside your childs’ bookbag. Please sit down and read this with your child. It is good to keep the copy on your fridge so you can refer to it throughout the term. This can help you think up some prompting questions so that when you are talking to your child about their day at school they (hopefully) won’t say ‘I can’t remember’ or ‘We did nothing.’
Here’s a copy in case your copy gets misplaced.
We have already had a fantastic start to the year. The children are all settling in very well and we are looking forward to learning our first sounds today. You will get your first ORT book with Biff, Chip and Kipper either today or tomorrow. Don’t worry we don’t expect your child to read them yet! There is a sheet with the story on, please read this to your child while they look at the pictures. Please encourage your child to turn the pages. There are also some ideas for questions for you to ask them. Find a comfy place to sit and enjoy!
Primary 1 have been busy preparing for their first school assembly. They are very excited to share their learning with the special adults in their lives! We hope you will be able to make it, don’t forget your cameras! After you drop off your children, please come into school through the main entrance doors and find a seat in the hall. (I’ve heard some people are queuing already!)
P 1 Parents and Carers,
We have really enjoyed hearing about your children’s talking boxes. They talked about so many fantastic things; things they do in their free time, places they have visited nearby and their holidays. Now they would like to tell you about some of the talks they listened to.
We invite you to come and see all the children’s talking boxes on Thursday 26th May at 2:30pm.
We hope you will be able to pop in to hear about all the things our children enjoy doing outside school.
Please come in the through the P1 entrance, where you normally drop off and pick up your children.
Thank you for your support

This week we are learning about the different ways we can measure all the things around us. It would be great if the children could think about measure at home too.
We will be learning to use scales to find out how many blocks different things weigh. We are also using the words heavier and lighter and spotting the numbers on packets of food to find out how much they weigh.
Maybe you could talk about weight when you visit the supermarket or when you’re making dinner?
We are using blocks to find out how large different spaces are. We are using the words larger area and smaller area to describe the size of flat objects.
You could talk about the area of anything flat, i.e. the size of plates, paper, posters.
We are using all sorts of ways (hands, feet, paper clips and straws) to measure, and describing length using the words long and short. We are thinking about why we don’t always get the same answers as each other and why we need standard units such as cm and m.
You could talk about the length of their food over supper. Hopefully after a few chomps their green beans won’t be so long anymore!
Volume and Capacity
We are finding out how many cupfuls we need to fill different containers and using the words more and less.
Maybe think about how much juice or water they need to fill different glasses, or even how many cupfuls they need to fill a vase for that beautiful bunch of flowers they picked from the garden for you!
