P1 Blend Sounds

This term we are learning to blend sounds that are often found at the beginning and at the end of words.

Sounds at the end of words

rk, nd, st, mp, lt, sk, nt, ft, sp, lk

ie. rk – bark.

ng and nk – these are found at the end of lots of words and they can often be harder to hear.

ie. ng – long, sing

nk – wink, bank

Sounds at the beginning of words

br, cr, dr, fr, gr, pr, tr

ie. br – brush

sc, sk, sm, sn, sp, st, sw, tw

ie. sc – scan

Please continue to practise the sounds we learned last term, the magic sounds where you put two sounds together and they turn into one different sound ie. oy in words like toy – t  oy.

sh – shed

ch – chop

th – bath

wh – when

ai – nail

ay – say

ee – feed

ea – meal

igh – light

y – my

oa – boat

ow – low

oo – foot

ew – new

oi – boil

oy – boy

ou – loud

ow – cow

au – Paul

aw – jaw
