5WD Coding using Scratch

The children have been learning how to create a game using the visual coding website Scratch. They worked in pairs to paint a maze background and create the code for their sprite (or character). Each team was able to tell their sprite to move a certain way depending on the arrow pressed, go back to the start if they touched an obstacle and change the background when the maze is complete.

The children have worked very hard on these games and a few examples can be seen and played here – why not give them a go!

African Drumming and Dance Experience

The Primary Fives have been learning African drumming and dance over the past few weeks which culminated in a fantastic workshop and performance to the whole school last Friday.

Every child who took part in the performance was able to take a drum solo and had the chance to do a dance solo if they chose. Both classes learned a lot and were amazing at showing their skills to the rest of the school. By the end of the performance the whole hall was dancing along! Well done to everybody!

P5 Food and Farming Event

The Primary Fives had a great day out last week at a Food and Farming event hosted by the Royal Highland Educational Trust. The children were able to take part in activities put on by a range of businesses and community groups. The aim of the event was to help the children get a better idea of where food and other raw products come from, how they are processed and used, why they are important for our local area and country and even what happens to our waste.

The children were able to talk to farmers and business people, taste produce, have a go at weaving, carry out investigations, see real farm animals and sit in the driver’s seat of a tractor!
