Practise the new sounds we have been learning with these jolly phonics songs.
Our brave P7 evacuees left early this morning on their coach bound for Coldingham! So many worried faces, unsure about their futures…
This event has been running between partner schools for years now, and on arrival the children will be billeted with new “families” then spend the day enjoying WWII related activities, from baking carrot biscuits to learning how to jive.
The accompanying staff members even dressed up too; see the screen inside the front door for more pictures!
Welcome back! We hope you all had a lovely February break. The nursery was a hive of activity with both main rooms being painted and staff coming in on Friday to set up the rooms ready for the children.
We are very pleased with our new look! We will be adding children’s work and more natural materials in the next few weeks.
Here is a back-up copy of the project instructions. We have been speaking about this in class today, and have looked at a couple of examples from previous years. Good luck, P6!
Our Annual Nursery Open Day will take place this year on Thursday 25th February from 3.15-4.15pm. This is an opportunity for prospective families to come and have a look around and meet the staff team. We look forward to seeing you there!
Friday 5th – Thursday 12th February
This week will see our final preparations for our redecoration during the February week. The rooms are starting to look a little bare but it will be worth it!
Our literacy focus on story writing and making words on the magnetic boards has been extremely popular! We will continue to extend this, working with the children’s interests and ideas.
In Maths we will be continuing to explore fractions and dividing. We will be sharing out groups and collections in practical settings e.g. getting the children into smaller groups in the gym hall or outside.
In Health and Wellbeing and Science we will be focusing on the safe use of electricity. We will be making some ‘turn off the lights’ and ‘danger’ signs to put up around the nursery.
We are going to continue to discuss the importance of the reducing, reusing and recycling our waste in the nursery and at home. We will be using our recycling bins for different types of waste and considering ways that we can reduce our waste and use of energy.
Some parents are coming to talk to us about Chinese New Year on Monday and do some cooking with us.
Tuesday is pancake day so we will be making pancakes for snack.
We will also discuss Valentine’s Day later in the week and do some activities linked to this.
REMEMBER: There is no nursery in the week beginning Monday 15th February. We return as normal on Monday 22nd February.
Friday 29th – Thursday 5th February
In Literacy we will be continuing to focus on writing our own stories as a number of children have been interested in this recently. We will also be encouraging the children to sound out words and make them on magnetic boards.
In Maths we will be continuing to explore fractions and dividing. We will do this by sharing out collections and cutting or splitting things into halves and quarters.
In Health and Wellbeing and Science we will be thinking about assessing risk and linking this to knowing about the safe use of electricity. We will be investigating the things we use every day which need electricity.
We are going to learn about the importance of the reducing, reusing and recycling our waste in the nursery and at home. We will be learning which bins to use for different types of waste and considering ways that we can reduce our waste and use of energy.
Chinese New Year is coming up and we will be beginning to learn more about Chinese culture and the importance of this festival. This week we will learn the story of The Great Race
